Residential Movers in Seattle

Hiring residential movers in Seattle means planning around your rooms, furniture, and driveway before the truck arrives, not figuring it out once loading has already started.

How We Handle Your Move

What a Home Move Actually Requires

A residential move covers everything inside a house, not a single room or item. Furniture, boxes, garage storage, and yard equipment all need a place in the loading plan before a truck ever pulls into the driveway, since space on board is limited and sequence matters.

Not every home fits the same profile. A single-family house with a driveway moves differently than an apartment or condo with shared hallways and elevators. Because of this, residential movers in Seattle review the property first, then build a loading order around what that home requires. Our apartment and condo access options are covered on our apartment moving services and condo moving services pages.

A Complete Guide

Planning a Home Move in Seattle

What to Check Before the Truck Arrives

Home layout affects a move more than distance does. Narrow hallways, tight stair turns, and low garage clearances slow loading when you discover them on the spot instead of ahead of time. Driveway width and slope matter too, since a steep or narrow driveway on a hillside street limits how close a truck can park. Walking through the home first, noting oversized furniture, and confirming street or driveway parking lets the crew plan the actual carry distance before moving day starts.

Getting Ready Before the Crew Shows Up

Packing by room instead of mixing everything into one pile saves real time on moving day. Labeling boxes by destination room, disassembling bed frames early, and clearing hallway pathways reduce what the crew has to figure out on site. Households short on time can use our professional packing services instead of packing everything themselves. Setting aside one box of essentials, chargers, medication, and a change of clothes also keeps the first night manageable once the truck has left.

Booking a Move Date Without Extra Cost

Booking residential movers in Seattle two to four weeks ahead usually opens up more weekend availability, since those dates tend to fill first. Confirming driveway width, garage access, and parking in advance can reduce avoidable waiting once the crew arrives. Households relocating outside the Seattle area should also review our long-distance moving services, since travel distance changes how we pack, schedule, and stage a move before departure day.

I’ve used this moving company twice, based on a recommendation from my brother, and unfortunately this second experience was disappointing. For context, we moved from a 2-bedroom apartment to another 2-bedroom about 10 minutes away. We had already moved many boxes ourselves, leaving mostly heavier furniture for the movers. While everything was moved safely, the billing and communication were a major issue. I was told over the phone that travel time would be 30 minutes before and 30 minutes after (1 hour total). The move was scheduled for 9am, they arrived around 8:45am, and finished at about 12:15pm. Despite this, I was charged from 8am–1pm. When questioned, I was told the clock started earlier for travel, which was not clearly explained upfront. I also asked if they could dispose of an old couch and was quoted $75, which I agreed to. During final billing, additional travel time charges were added for the dump run, which were never mentioned when I agreed to the price. If extra fees were required, that should have been communicated clearly in advance. There were also parking issues at both locations. Approved parking was available and cleared by the leasing office, but not used initially, resulting in extra time spent re-parking — which again affected the final bill. For comparison, my brother used this same company to move to Edgewood (a much farther distance) and paid about $900. My move was 10 minutes away and I paid $825. I guess referrals only matter if they come from certain people. Overall, they completed the move, but the lack of transparency, inconsistent pricing and treatment of clients overshadowed the experience. I would not use this company again and would caution others to get very clear, written pricing before booking. Side Note: I did reach out to the owner prior to posting this review and all he said was the extra time was for the disposal of the couch and didn’t offer any other resolutions.

Alberto and his team did a great job moving the furniture of our two bedroom. All my worries about getting furniture into our new second floor unit with stairs and a sharp turn melted away. They were punctual, listened to what I needed moved, then pulled it off without a hitch. I could not have asked for more with my first experience hiring movers.

Alberto and his team are top notch movers! He came out to our home to assess the move, met us in person, and was very organized about his plan for our move. These guys were the most efficient of any movers in our experience, very professional, and highly recommended. Worth every penny!

These guys were AWESOME!! They had the best price, were super fast, damaged NOTHING, and were friendly. I had to move by myself while my wife was out of town and these guys saved my life. They showed up on time and clearly had a plan. Alberto led the team and they busted out our 3 story town house (3 bed, 2.5 bath) in under 3 hours! They disassembled and reassembled the big furniture and moved everything where it needed to be. They put down pads and just did everything right. I ended up hiring Alberto for some yard work as well! They even came back the next day to re-assemble my bedframe (since one piece was accidentally put in upside down). These guys are the best, would absolutely hire for all future moves. Great price, no surprises, quality service.

Outstanding, professional moving services!!! We were moving about 20 miles away from a 2500 SF home and an off-site storage site, to a 4200 SF home on rather short-notice (2 weeks) and needed a full service local mover. I contacted several companies and Octopus was THE ONLY one who contacted us personally. (Others just emailed their standard hourly rates.) Octopus gave us a good quote and we hired them on the spot. And we're so glad we did!!! They were outstanding in every possible way. They arrived on-time, everyone worked hard and fast, and all of our belongings arrived safely. Alberto and his team are top-notch in every way. We will hire them again, and highly recommend their services to others.

Frequently Asked Questions

Professional house movers handle loading, protection, and placement, while a rental truck only provides the vehicle. In neighborhoods like Ballard or Capitol Hill, tight parking and steep driveways often make labor the harder part, not the drive itself.

Extra square footage adds to the total inventory, which can affect crew size and loading time. Reviewing a finished basement during planning lets the crew account for those items instead of finding them for the first time on moving day.

Many household moves in Seattle get scheduled around school hours or a child’s nap window. Sharing these time constraints during planning lets the crew sequence loading and unloading around windows that actually work for the family, rather than a fixed generic schedule.

Oversized furniture sometimes needs to exit through a garage or side door, or get partially disassembled to clear a tight stair turn common in older Seattle homes. Identifying these pieces during a walkthrough lets the crew bring the right tools ahead of time.

Homes on sloped streets, common across parts of West Seattle and Queen Anne, often limit how close a truck can park, which increases carry distance. Confirming driveway grade beforehand helps the crew plan labor and timing more accurately.
